Holiday Events Around Richmond and Fredericksburg


Twinkling lights, sweet scents, festive cheer… it’s the most wonderful time of the year! Around your new Cornerstone home in Richmond or Fredericksburg, fun-filled adventures await for you and your family to celebrate the season and connect with your community. From tree lighting and holiday shopping to parades and wintry treats, take a look at the safe & special, holiday-themed events happening beyond your front door: 

Holiday Events in Richmond, VA

December 12: Artisan Holiday Market


There’s no better feeling than finding the perfect gift for a loved one. (Or even something special for yourself!) If you’re ready to do some holiday shopping, look no further than the Artisan Market in Midlothian, where you can browse unique vendors offering jewelry, clothing, candles, body care, bakery items, and more from 10 AM to 2 PM. Coffee and light refreshments will also be served! 


November 23-January 10: GardenFest of Lights


This popular outdoor event is sure to fill your heart with holiday spirit. Marvel at the twinkling trees and giant flowers, as well as the peacock, unicorn, and dragon, as you relax and enjoy a festive night with family and friends. There will also be a model train display chugging along the Garden Keeper’s Cottage in the Children’s Garden, and “Grab & Go” food and drinks at the Tea House. (Closed December 24-25.)

All Season: Tacky Lights


One of the many things that makes Richmond so special is the festive spirit felt around the holidays. Residents here love to spread holiday cheer though fun, “tacky” lights on their homes! December 7: Old Towne Carriage Tours


Experience the beauty of historic Fredericksburg on a horse-drawn carriage! Take a 45-minute daytime tour through the Colonial, Antebellum, Victorian, and Edwardian homes throughout town and enjoy the festive decorations on display. Sit back, relax, and indulge in the sights and sounds that make the holidays so special. 


December 12: Wee Christmas Virtual Workshop


Curl up on the couch with a warm drink and a cozy blanket as you participate in a fun, creative virtual workshop hosted by historic Kenmore! You’ll learn how to create a holiday-themed “room box” consisting of materials provided in kits (you will supply your own super glue). Once you’ve purchased your kit, you will receive an email with a link to a private Zoom meeting for the live workshop. Kits can be picked up in-person at the Crowninshield Building at Kenmore.


December 11, 12, 18, 19: Gingerbread Contest/Exhibit


Indulge in the sweetness of the season with your family and friends! Start a tradition with your grandkids and use your favorite candies and desserts to create your own gingerbread house with this year’s “Fairy Tales” theme. But you don’t have to enter the contest to take part in the fun; you can enjoy a festive winter outing and simply browse the display of sweet creations at Ferry Farm!

December 12: Ashland Theatre Holiday Spectacular


There’s nothing like live holiday entertainment from the comfort of home! Get cozy and enjoy an online broadcast of musical performances, a “live” auction, storytime with Ashland Santa, a performance by the “Don’t Ask Ned” band, and more. Whip up your favorite holiday meal or dessert and tune into all the festivities surrounded by blankets, pillows, and total comfort.

It’s the brightest time of the year! Every December, the pedestrian-friendly part of the trackside district transforms into a mile-long spectacle of twinkling lights for all to enjoy. Historic Ashland is the perfect place to stroll with family and friends to take in the sights and sounds of the season! Don’t miss the festive spirit of this year’s “Light Up the Tracks” display.


Throughout December: Beer Garden at Origin Beer Lab


Come for the delicious beer and stay for all of the holiday fun! The outdoor beer garden at Origin Beer Lab has personal firepits to keep you cozy as you sip tasty craft beer varieties with friends. The beer garden on the back patio operates from 4 to 9 PM Wednesday through Friday, 1 to 9 PM on Saturday, and 12 to 6 PM on Sunday. Stop by for unique craft beer on tap — you can even bring your furry friend along!
