Tips to Declutter Your Home
A new home with all the bells and whistles, low-maintenance, amenities, and more free time to do what you want. Sounds like what you deserve in this stage of life! However, before making this exciting move might require some preparation, and more specifically some decluttering. Ask anyone who has made this move and they will tell you that it is never too early to start!
The more you declutter, the more you learn about who you are, which in turn makes it easier to let go. You're no longer pulled in a million directions because you know what matters to you.
Let’s face it, less stuff leads to less stress. You will have more time, money and energy than ever before. You will be able to relax and truly enjoy your new home.
The best way to get and stay motivated to declutter is to know exactly why you're doing it. Really think about what you want to achieve by clearing the clutter and simplifying your home. Maybe you are finally moving to your forever home and want more time for your family or for an activity you love. And of course, the longer you have lived in your home, the more time you should plan for preparing to move. After all, it may take a bit to sort through 30 years of accumulated stuff in just a few months!
Wherever you are in your journey to your new forever home, it’s never too early to start. Every new homeowner in our Cornerstone Homes community has experienced the joys of decluttering and moving to an exciting new lifestyle. As the experts in active adult living, Cornerstone is here to help you make this transition easy and smooth. First, here are three helpful tips for you to get started today to declutter your home!
How To Declutter Your Home
- Tackle Closets: Take everything out. Keep everything you love and use frequently. Not worn in past year? Toss or donate.
- Drawers: Empty and sort. Same as above!
- Room by Room: Start with floor. Clear stuff on the floor. Then go to countertops, shelves, and furniture. Really consider what you need or of sentimental value.
Remember keep only things that serve a purpose or bring you joy!
For decluttering to have its full effect, though, you really have to believe that filling your life with material “stuff” will never actually bring you true fulfillment. Once you believe that, you’ll be on your way to living a carefree lifestyle!
